BNAP at Africa Art Basel - “Beyond the White Cube : Artist-Led Organisations and New Exhibition Formats”

The BNAP Foundation is proud to announce that our Co-Founder and Art Director, Olwethu de Vos, will represent the Foundation at the inaugural Africa Basel Conversations programme in Basel, Switzerland — making BNAP the sole South African organisation invited to participate alongside distinguished continental peers.

Running concurrently with Art Basel, one of the world's most prestigious international contemporary art fairs, Africa Basel is a dedicated platform for African galleries, artists, and cultural organisations. This year, for the first time, the fair launches a Talks Programme addressing narratives from the Global South.

Olwethu will engage in conversations with other internationally recognised artist-led initiatives, exploring how artist-led spaces are reshaping exhibition formats, challenging traditional gallery models, and building sustainable, community-rooted infrastructures for contemporary art across the continent and beyond.

This engagement marks a significant milestone for BNAP and for South African artist-led spaces on the global stage. The knowledge, connections, and partnerships forged in Basel will feed directly back into our programmes, mentorship curriculum, and the artists we support at home.
