The Cartography of Dreams II – National Arts Festival, The Monument Gallery

The Cartography of Dreams II continues to investigate the role of memory and emotions in the criticism and documentation of our history while mapping our dreams.Dream cartography, in this context, is used metaphorically method to discuss our personal memories and how we subconsciously process our lived experiences. Memory plays an integral role in guiding us through understanding our personal histories and our dreams illuminate the depths of our repressed emotions.We believe each artist presents a unique conceptual approach in their exploration our theme. Featured artists integrate culture, aesthetics and nature in their representations of lived experiences and aspirations.

The combination of artworks featured in this exhibition reveals the importance of reflecting on our emotional state as we grow through what we go through.Celebrating the achievement of a milestone for the artists and the foundation. As the Blessing Ngobeni Art Prize Foundation, we are proud to present our finalists for 2025. Emmanuel Odogwu, Given Muronga, Itumeleng Mtshali, Joy Mwali, Julien Oozeeraully, Keonah Nyembe, Khanyisa Agnes Brancon, Miangaly Elia Andrianstoa, Nathaniel Sheppard Ill, Siphenathi Mduli and Siyabonga Mtshali. A special installation by 2023 finalist Danna Margo Westcott.
