Ancient The Modern: A Group Exhibition by BNAP and WORLDART.

A Group Exhibition in collaboration with WORLDART Gallery

Dates:6 February – 28 February 2025
Venue: WORLDART Gallery, 68 Long Street, Cape Town.

The Blessing Ngobeni Art Prize Foundation in collaboration with WORLDART Gallery  presents “Ancient The Modern” a group exhibition featuring artworks that explore  the concept of cultural regression, specifically the re-adoption of non-technological
forms of community building and the effects of conservative ideologies on contemporary culture through art.

The shift in global narratives towards more conservative ideologies raises concerns about how global economics and regressive politics will affect our contemporary way of life, its limitations and over-indulgences. Art emerges as a signifier of option paralysis and audience fatigue forcing us to adopt new ways of engaging audiences and capturing the attention of collectors with niche experiences.

All artworks featured in the exhibition comment on a new way of thinking about the role of art shifting from industrial norms to archival making in a changing world. What are the concerns of the artist in the age of AI and hyper-capitalism in contrast to cross-cultural conscious belief systems?

The exhibition opens on the 6
th of February and will form part of the Investec Cape  Town Art Fair VIP program with a scheduled walkabout for the 21st of February at  WORLDART Gallery.

Featured artists include:
Joel Mamboka, Leonardo Sitoe, Lerato  Ntili, Masonwabe Ntloko, Olwethu de Vos, Samson Chambala, Stephen Langa, Thato  Tlatsi, Theophelus Rikhotso, Tshepo Bopape and Yolo Mantiyane.
